What should I look for in buying a used clarinet for my 15 year daughter?
I found a Bundy, Armstrong and clarinet Conn sale. What may prove to be preferable, or does it just depend on the overall? The Bundy is 13 years but has not been played for 10 years. Do pieces like the cork in blocks or age and must be replaced by non-use or time? I want to maintain the cost down as much as possible, but still an instrument that will last through high school for her.
Check for cracks in sections where the join. Check the keys for bends and breaks. Personally, I buy a new spokesman, and also take the new pads in Clari / Caps before it even begins with it. Yes, pads and corks are bad (dry) with age. Conns are more popular because they are generally cheaper, made for 5 students in Grade 6. To get the most mileage, I would buy Bundy.
